A Must Watch: Canadian Musicians Sing “Wavin Flag” for Haiti
by OnTheGOinTO on Mar.12, 2010, under Music
A very well done cover song for Haiti. Canadian Musicians come together to sing K’naan’s current hit “Wavin Flag” for Haiti reief. Young Artists For Haiti includes K’naan (who performed this at the Closing Ceremonies in Vancouver), Nelly Furtado, Avril Lavigne, Sam Roberts, Kardinal Offishall, Justin Bieber (this song uses him way more appropriately than the “We Are The World 2″ song), Drake, Jully Black, Lights, Sum 41′s Derrick Whibley, Hedley’s Jacob Hoggard, Theory Of A Deadman’s Tyler Connolly, Emily Haines, Simple Plan’s Pierre Bouvier, Serena Ryder, Hawksley Workman, Tom Cochrane, Jim Cuddy, Esthero, Colin James, Suzie McNeil, Justin Nozuka, City And Colour, Canadian Tenors, Broken Social Scene, Kathleen Edwards, Barenaked Ladies’ Jim Creeggan, Fefe Dobson, and Nikki Yanofsky nails her big note at the end. I bet Celine wishes she was part of this one instead of the abombination that was “We Are The World 2″. I wonder if Jamie Foxx feels like an idiot yet. Buy the song on iTunes:
The Americans have also taken another crack at a Haiti Relief song as well (I wonder why, Mr. Foxx?), and this one is quite good as well. This is the Christian Music community coming together under Michael W. Smith. Other than Amy Grant and Vince Gill, there’s not many people we recognize but you have artists like Wynonna Judd, The Oak Ridge Boys, and Steven Curtis Chapman.
Here’s “Come Together Now”:
And one more…this one was produced by Simon Cowell of American Idol fame. You’ve got some huge names here like Mariah Carey, Susan Boyle, Rod Stewart, Jon Bon Jovi, James Morrison (one of our favourites), Leona Lewis, Mika, James Blunt, Robbie Williams, and lots of UK artists. They all come together to cover R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts”, a perfect song for the relief effort.
All songs are available on iTunes.
